Construction of our first building in Haiti in the town of Gressier, which is located 15 mile south west of Port-Au-Prince. This town serves as a suburb of PaP as well as a large agricultural area. Jobs are tough to come by with over 80% unemployment. This project provided jobs for over 200 people in the area by rotating shifts and trades.
The problem of 'restaveks' is profound in this region. Kids become poverty orphans by being given to other families who then treat them as slaves. The idea for this school was started by Respire Haiti and currently educates over 500 kids, with most of them being restaveks. This classroom provides a great amount of openings for air and light to come into the space as their is no power in the area.
The building gallery oriented west cools the air headed east, to the mountains, with shade from the building overhang and bamboo garden.
